Hi all,
new to forums so not sure if this is the right place but I'd really appreciate some guidance on how to fix situation.
Last month I decided to take control of finances and applied for and received a new credit card with 0% to pay off old HSBC credit card debt. All went well EXCEPT that after the balance had been paid in full, HSBC continued to take the planned minimum amount from my current account. I complained and asked for that money to be repaid to my current account which they did. All well.
My intention was to continue using the old credit card with the 'pay it off at end of the month' strategy to maintain credit rating. HSBC sent me a message that I should pay the minimum amount (£10) on 27 October. I thought it was odd since they don't normally send me such a message so I checked online banking and the direct debit to pay the HSBC card was still in the 'Active' folder, not in the 'Cancelled Direct Debits' folder. I (wrongly) assumed that the £10 would be paid. It was not and HSBC applied a late fee of £12 and blocked the card. The direct debit continues to show as 'Active' on my current account.
Today, I have paid the £10 and asked for them to re-imburse the late fee since this was their fault in cancelling the direct debit. They have said that they need to investigate which might take 3 days or otherwise they have 6 to 8 weeks to resolve. Meantime, by card is blocked while they do that.
Anybody hear of such a thing? I need to put a professional membership payment on my card without which I can't work. Any help to get HSBC to push through their complaints process would be most welcome. Thanks to all for reading.
