Why don't supermarkets make meat packaging to keep portions separate.

Cereal bags, cut up, make good separators of food in the freezer to stop them sticking together. I've only used them for separating pancakes though

For free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Beware fee charging companies with similar names.

That's a good idea, I cut up the bits of cardboard that some scones/pancakes are sold in and use them for separators. Bread is also frozen and as I prefer a slice of toast to a sandwich anyway, don't miss not having a sandwich.

I'll put a tappo monitor on it

The costings I quoted were from sticking a kill-a-watt meter in line with the freezer over the course of a year (did same with freezer) to get an idea of real running costs of my actual usage.

    Cereal bags,

Thanks for reminding me. I use these as "freezer bags" for all sorts. Raw meat = single use though. Otherwise, for fruit/veg/etc. they get washed out and reused multiple times.

Sounds like you are paying far too much attention to what is written on the packet where what is written has to err on the side of caution - the packaging manufacturer does not know whether your fridge works or not.
You are also expected to have a nose and a brain.

Keep your nose out of it. Probably have a point though but i wouldn't want to rely on the nose test too much.
Freezer is being filled. The bread saving for toast alone is going to pay for it. And can be put straight in toaster.
