Help with Salary sacrifice and Self asssesment

Hi, so last year I filled in a self assessment and filled in the tax relief section on the SA form to claim the other 20% back through SA, filled this in due to higher child benefit charge.

Back in october Hmrc changed my tax code to 1336L and they automatically closed my self assessment and said I don’t need to do one the following year as they have adj my tax code so I don’t need to claim the additional 20% through SA.

I have had to reopen the SA back up due to higher child benefit charge and I need to submit a SA this year and since June I have now Salary sacrificed my pension contributions, a total of £704 goes in to my nest pension each month.

Should I let Hmrc know about the SS as does that mean they will need to change my tax code back?

Does that mean I can no longer claim any pension tax relief through my SA?

I am confused and not sure how it works!

 Thanks

If you have sal sac you are not making any contributions, all are employer contributions in exchange for a lower salary, HMRC have no interest in those.  You are not entitled to any relief on employer contributions.

OP It wouldn't hurt to look at how they calculate your tax code and see if it says anything about pension contributions.

Have you actually switched from Relief at Source contributions to salary sacrifice since you did your self assessment?  Or were the contributions you reported in that self assessment also paid via salary sacrifice?  If the latter you may need to correct the self assessment return.

Thanks do I need to let Hmrc know about my salary sacrifice as they only changed my tax code to account for 20%tax relief oct 24. Or will they pick it up at the end of the year and adjust it?  (We only started salary sacrifice in June this year) Am I going to owe them a bit for the extra they are giving me in my tax code?

If you don't tell them now you are going to build up a bigger underpayment.

Well I get my tax codes on paper and they have a breakdown showing allowances and adjustments with notes explaining them.  Online I suspect it is somewhere in the PAYE box of your Tax Account.
