Instagram scam?

Hi everyone, I used to enter comps years ago a d now I'm back a d noticed there's loads on instagram. 

I created an account and I've had a message today wait g I've won a competition but says to download an app, screen shot it and we d them a message with screen shot.  

I've never used Instagram so still finding my feet but I'm assuming it's a scam?

If you take the approach that most things on social media are a scam then you won't go far wrong.

It wasn’t the Hair Syrup one by any chance? They posted that fake accounts are contacting people saying they have won. 

I have only entered IG competitions a few times, always a reputable company and official page. When I won they sent me a direct message and asked for my contact details there, they also posted on the main page to followers that I had won. I haven’t heard of asking people to download an app/email further proof, sounds dodgy!

I'm not a fan of Instagram atm. I've only  been registered a few days and already been warned saying that I'm spamming 😂 genuinely have no idea what I'm doing. Think I'll stick to just normal comps a d wait for the Xmas advent to start.

It was for 4thandreckless. It asked me to download one of those free trial apps for vpn. So I pretty much thought it's suspicious but because I don't know Instagram I thought I best check....you need an app for everything now!

I had a DM from a fake account pretending to be 4th and reckless. Their current comp closes tomorrow so it's definitely not legit x

 This is why I ignore instagram competitions, that and the need of tagging people who would probably unfollow if I do it too much
