Handing in Notice and Notice Period

It’s ok but I still think better to try and negotiate with your manager ahead of sending the letter. That way you can (if all goes well) write “as agreed my notice period will be XX and my final date of employment XX”.PierremontQuaker03 said:Just to get back to you all about the holidays, I have 8 days to take, but I need to take them by the end of December - its within company policy to carry 5 days over if agreed with your manager. Potentially I could carry the 8 days over as an exception and then tag these on to the end maybe?
I have explained all of this chatgpt - and rather than going down the stress / mental health route (I dont want to show to the FD that she has won, and this to be on my file) - I'll go on the not enjoying it anymore route, what does everyone think of this letter:[Your Name]
[Your Address]
[City, Postcode]
[Email Address]
[Phone Number][Date]
[Manager’s Name]
[Company Name]
[Company Address]
[City, Postcode]Subject: Resignation Notice
Dear [Manager’s Name],
I am writing to formally resign from my position as Accountant at [Company Name], with effect from today, [Date].
As outlined in my contract, I understand that my notice period is three months. However, I would like to request to leave earlier than this, with my proposed final working day being [proposed date], if this can be accommodated. I will ensure that all outstanding work is completed and that a thorough handover is provided to support a smooth transition.
I have given this decision considerable thought. In recent months, I have found that I am no longer enjoying my role as I once did, and I believe it would be in the best interests of both myself and the company for me to step away within the notice period rather than complete the full three months.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the wider team for the support and opportunities I have received during my time at [Company Name]. It has been a pleasure to work with such dedicated colleagues, and I wish the company continued success in the future.
Thank you for your understanding and consideration regarding my request.
Yours sincerely,
[Your Name]I would absolutely remove the paragraph that starts “I have given this decision considerable thought…”. It’s unnecessary, risks coming ancross badly, and won’t benefit you in any way.1 -
I actually disagree with Tabieth about removal of that paragraph, although removing this part "I have given this decision considerable thought. In recent months, I have found that I am no longer enjoying my role as I once did, and" may simplify the information whilst not potentially giving your manager an opportunity to realise they can make your life miserable by making you work the full notice period.I hope everything works out for you.1

Whenever I've resigned, I've always included a statement of what I believe my annual leave position to be, and a request to do whatever it is I've decided I'd like to do. They don't have to agree, either to how much I think I've got, or whether I take it within the notice period or at the end (and you'd continue to 'earn' more over a 3 month notice period ...)
But maybe that's just me!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Have you any accrued holiday/TOIL?0
