Aim share loss and cap gains

Hello,

Please can i ask if loss for a share traded on AIM  market can be used against cap gains for  the sale second property?

If so, can the loss be carried over to the next next tax year?

Thanks

Yes you can , but if they were not losses carried forward from the previous 2024/25 tax year  the online CGT calculator for residential property gains, does not appear to allow you to claim  losses incurred in the current year, despite the general principle that this is permitted.

However, you will also be required to submit a self assessment tax return for 2025/26 reporting the property gain for the 2nd time, and on that return you will report the AIM losses. At that point  theoretically, those losses should then be applied to the property gain with ( hopefully) the prospect of a tax repayment.   However worse case scenario, if for whatever reason they are not applied to the property gain you do get to carry forward the AIM losses against future gains.
  • Hello, thank you for your response. I haven't  actually sold the shares  yet. Likely to be this financial year, with the cap gains for the next financial year. Will the loss just offset the gains or will a payment be required?
