Moving abroad - existing mortgage

I have a residential mortgage with Santander with consent to let as the house is rented out. The consent to let runs until my fixed term ends in summer 2027. I am considering moving to Spain via my current employer for 2026. I’m not sure how long for but I would become a Spanish tax resident. Would that mean I wouldn’t be able to move to a standard Santander buy to let mortgage when my fixed term ends? Thanks

You’ll need to ask the lender. Emphasise the employment driven need to move and its temporary nature may yield a more positive result. Given its roots, I’d have thought moving to Spain with Santander would be the easiest country/ lender combination.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
