Chromatica Orchestra, a new ensemble bringing together the passion and energy of brilliant early-career professional orchestral musicians, makes a visit to Dorking Halls on Saturday 1st November for a concert that combines the 18th-century classical elegance of Mozart with the bold 20th-century innovation of Bartók.

Opening the concert is Mozart’s ‘Haffner Serenade’, named for the wealthy Austrian family that commissioned it as a wedding gift. It is really peak Mozart – energetic and spirited, elegant and graceful, it dazzles and sparkles. In the second half is Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, a piece was an instant hit after its premiere, receiving over 50 performances in its first year. Its novel combination of instruments, its gripping folk-music inspired rhythms and hauntingly beautiful, atmospheric melodies feel both ancient and modern at the same time.

Tickets are £25 and can be booked online dorkinghalls.co.uk/booking-tickets/?EventId=384101.

To win one of four pairs of tickets, please answer the following question:

Q: What is opening this concert?
