The guitar looks great fun for anyone, not just kids. I would buy one at that price but it would only take time away from practice on my real guitar. It's no good if you actually want to learn how to play a real guitar. I would suggest looking around for a beginners acoustic for £20ish or beginners electric set (including amp) if you're thinking of learning to play the guitar. I would also highly recommend Fenders getting started DVD if you don't want to pay for expensive lessons. There is an acoustic and electric version of the DVD. The electric DVD is called "Fender presents getting started on electric guitar".

Ian, I only just saw your post, which you must have written about the time I was buying this..... Is it really no good for beginners?

I thought my kiddos (under 7s) would enjoy it while learning the basics.

BTW, does anyone else find themselves buying far more than they should after reading these boards? Yes, everythings cheaper, but in the last month or so I've bought things I would never have considered just because they were much cheaper than usual:o

I agree with Tincat, it's so tempting to buy loads of stuff you don't need just because it's a bargain.

If they run out of stock at The Toy Shop they are also available at Amazon for the same price £12.50 through The Entertainer but the postage is slightly higher at £4.95.

As I said Tincat, this looks like a great little gadget and lots of fun. At this price you can't go wrong. With regards to learning to play the guitar, the most this will do for a child (or anyone) is give them an interest in making their own music, it's very enjoyable making the sounds yourself rather than just listening to them. This may hold a childs interest better then the real thing because the real thing can be tricky and requires lots of practise. Maybe if they enjoy this they will want to play for real.

Basically there are 6 strings on a guitar and you have to hold down combinations of different strings on different frets (the lines across the neck) while playing either some of or all of the strings with a plectrum in your right hand. With this gadget you just hold down a button. When you start learning the vast majority of what you are doing day in day out is learning the basic chords (the shape/pattern of the fingers on your left hand that are holding down strings) and learning to move between these awkward positions accurately and in rhythm. In other words this is no more useful in learning to play a real guitar than an electronic keyboard.
