Am I expecting too much from broker? Mortgage application with Aldermore

Applied for a mortgage with Aldermore via a broker on 18th September.
Documents submitted, valuation carried out, latest bank statements requested 3rd October. Was told we could expect and update or an offer on Monday 13th October but we didn't hear anything from the broker. I called yesterday to be told they don't have an update so they will chase and contact us tomorrow. Today again no update or phone call. I called again today to be told they couldn't get through to Aldermore so again no update but they will "update us tomorrow".
I asked where exactly we're at in the process to be told "somewhere towards the end". I feel like they don't even know themselves. Isn't it their job to know exactly where we are in the process? and give exact time frames? Shouldn't they be able to actually speak to the lender for a update? I'm so frustrated at this point I want to contact them myself, is that even an option? As I feel like they are only updating us when they have an update from the lender themselves without doing any chasing. Am I just being impatient or should they be doing more?

Mortgage lenders & their underwriters work to their own process & timescales. Broker will only have a guess on how long it will take, & not get regular updates.
If Aldermore are busy, they may not answer the broker quickly.Life in the slow lane0 -
Looking at Aldermore' timeframes you should have had an update last week... https://www.aldermore.co.uk/intermediaries/mortgages/our-latest-service-levels
Its not unreasonable for anyone in any job to call you when they say they will. Even if it is just to say there is no update as expected.
Aldermore (and all specialist lenders) are very different to the high street. Its quite possible if your broker is not used to doing these types of cases, they have been caught out by something - not in the sense it will be a problem, but it is just taking longer than it maybe should.
Give Aldermore a call. I would hate for any of my clients to do that as it means something has gone wrong. But ultimately if you are not getting updates as promised I dont think its unreasonable if nothing else than to lower your anxiety levels.
