When paying for NI Top-up, do you have to pay the years separately or in one?

Hi all,

I have 10 years of NI I can top up at class 2 - My question is, if I want to pay for all 10, when doing the BACS transfer, do I have to do ten individual payments, or can I just add up the total amount, which amounts to £1228.50, and send this alongside my NI reference / surname/ initial as the payment reference, and they will sort all ten years in one go?

Would appreciate any insight or experience on people who have done this. Thanks!

You would normally pay for all 10 years at once. If there are other years that you’re not paying for then follow up by using the HMRC Digital Assistant and tell them which 10 years to allocate your payment to. Just type adviser twice to get transferred to a real person.
