Import charges on prizes

Has anyone won any competitions based outside the uk. What important taxes did you have to pay and how much?

I won an X box from the USA last year and they covered the import tax, which was nice of them.

I hope it isn't some Nigerian competition where you need to to pay "import tax" before they transfer you the money

Depends what country the prize is from, what the prize is and it's value - import duties and VAT can be considerable if they are not included with the prize.
