What small things will you do this week? W/C 6th October

When we start on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards, and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer every day to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important!

I still look at the yellow sticker things in the supermarket but am quite critical about what I pick up.  Previously I might have taken as much as I know we could use and cram the freezer full.  Now I consider that I don't need to spend that money to save money.  And the freezer is only so big so I don't want it stuffed out with non essentials.

It's made me more conscious of meal planning.  I mean recently I saw that Tesco had 2 full trays of bacon with YSs.  We like bacon so I took a closer look.  It was less than half the normal price.  And was dated a month into the future.  Surely we would need bacon in the next week let alone in the next month so I bought 2 packs.  Previously I might have thought about buying more but I figure I should let others make savings too.

I've also let the Lidl coupons go without using.  Too many times I'll think "oh wow 15% off" and buy something and then not use it.  Again - stopping to think what I need and not be lured by a false anticipation of saving ££.   15p off a £1 item isn't a saving if I then throw out most or all of the £1 item because it wasn't actually needed.

Not a huge amount done so far this week as been working today but a couple of minor things:

    • DB1 is going out for a curry night with DB2 and 3 and a couple of our cousins, planning a holiday they are taking next month. I have offered to drive him to save him a few pennies. I will be having a ready meal from the freezer so no expenditure.
    • NSD today.
    • Checked Prolific - 1 done.
