Tax question

Hello Forumites,

Just looking at spouse's pay slip and too impatient to wait till Monday.

Her employment situation:

- Basic rate tax payer
- Started new job a week before pay roll cut off

First payslip shows this which is quite confusing

- Gross pay 200
- Deductions 362
- Net pay 562
- Tax code 1257L

Payments showing as 200

It looks like they have got gross and net other way around and deductions look to be almost 60% while the tax code seem right (there is no X on it to indicate emergency).

Any idea what may be going on here.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like a tax refund, is there a - before or after the 362.
I assume not weekly paid as no NI mentioned.
Was there a previous job with tax paid.
If so have you P45 part 1a with details.

What do you mean by Payments showing as 200

Did she hand in a P45 from her previous job?

Ah yes there is a - before 362, that explains it.

Yes there was a previous job with tax paid and P45 has been submitted to new employer.

The payslip also says 2 units and 1 unit is 100 so looks like she got paid for 2 days.

So net pay is actually 562 not 200 as I was thinking.

    Thank you so much
