in Cutting tax
Hello
I don't seem to be able to get a clear answer on this anywhere, and a certain online tax calculator tells me I do have to pay national insurance when I'm employed on self employed earnings of £4700, but....
If I earn a full time, employed salary of £30,000 per year, and national insurance is collected via PAYE, am I correct in thinking there would be no additional national insurance to pay if I were to register as self employed and my self employed income is only £4,700 per year?
Can anyone 100% confirm this? Any tax advisors online? Thank you!

I should say, register as self employed in addition to my full time income!0

That's correct. You wouldn't need to pay class 4 NI as your self-employed income is below the threshold. You could choose to pay class 2 NI voluntarily but that wouldn't make much sense as you're already covered by the NI you pay from employment.
