I received a phone call saying i had won a free 30 minute virtual health appointment with an endocrinologist and immunologist. Thats all good but when they have emailed me the appointment its coming from a gmail account. Would this put you off? It has me, what legitimate business runs via gmail!

Was this free consultation offered in an unsolicited cold call?
Is the consultation via Zoom?
Will you be required to remove your clothing?
Email coming from a Gmail account would be in there as one of a long list of "Why this is dodgy".1 -
I received an email and a phone call in response to a competition i entered. Its s legit competition magazine but the prize less so.The consultation is over zoom they have an onsite office in Oldham. Nothing said about removing clothes and wouldn't be expected for those specialisms.0

It's not unheard of for business to use Gmail (though it's not exactly common).
Using Gmail doesn't necessarily mean there's anything dodgy. Just the same as having a custom email domain doesn't guarantee something isn't dodgy.2 -
They run these practically every month in quite a few of the mag dailies. They must be getting something out of doing them so regularly probably by way of using the magazines names on their website for advertising along with their name being on the magazines website I would imagine. There's a few others that seem to pop up every month too that often make me wonder how they get something out of paying regularly for their comps to be there so often with them not being physical prizes.
Maybe some others on here might have won it who might be able to give some info. I would just be careful that you don't get talked into paying for anything extra unless it is something you are happy with. I wouldn't be too concerned about it being a gmail email though.1 -
I can't see they're going to be able to do much with a 30min Zoom call.
Perhaps you'll find they use this opening to sell "add ones" (possibly at inflated prices) which is where they make their money.
Personally I wouldn't be engaging with this "prize" at all.1 -
All these virtual appointments seem super dodgy to me so I always skip these comps.2

Same, they just seem like they'll give you some vague advice for a few minutes then go on the hard sell to try and get you to sign up to some service.danny13579 said:All these virtual appointments seem super dodgy to me so I always skip these comps.
That being said, I wouldn't find the email coming from a gmail dodgy, they always seem to be from some individual running a small business so they may not necessarily have their own domain.1 -
As a private individual I own my own domain, and I know several people who are self employed sole traders who own theirs. Gmail feels dodgy.fayemr said:
