If it is a limited company and the info is not at companies house then prior to the liquidation - be it voluntary of compulsory the fact it was going into liquidation should have been advertised in the london gazette. Companies House could be slow in being updated as nothing is ever sent instantaneously so try http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/AdvancedSearch.aspx?geotype=London. Put in the company name and see what comes up. You will then be able to find out which Insolvency Practitioner or Official Receivers Office is dealing with it and speak to them.

Alternatively if he was a sole trader, put his details into the individual insolvency register and discover which Official Receiver's office is dealing with his case http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/eiir/.

If you get no joy from either of these 2 sources today then try again in a few days. Registers do normally take a while to be updated, but if it happened at the end of December then it should be apparent by now.

I am a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner and (from experience) for him to be able to plan what day everyone would finish sounds to me as if he was running a limited company and was planing to put the company into liquidation. As a result it may be that the meetings for the liquidation haven't yet been convened, so you will not yet be able to find details anywhere of who will be dealing with the case and may have to just wait a little while.

One last avenue to look at though would be to see if the registered office of the company has changed recently (check on Companies House). If it has it is likely to have been changed to the proposed liquidator's address, so now search the address on Google or Yell and you are likely to find who will be dealing with it, but note your Aunty's details will not even be processed until the company has gone into liquidation, so it could be some time yet.

Hope this (rather long) post is useful.

Tell your aunt to get hold of "Redundancy and Insolvency-a guide for employees" It's a DTI publication and your job centre will have a copy for her. It has all the details of how she claims her owing money from her employer and also has the forms she needs.Basically the government pay it if the employer can't.
I have it here and there are 3 regional offices-if you want the details of your local one drop me a PM and I'll send you the address & phone number-although it is in the booklet.
