Tesco Woodside Farms Meat

Just back from my weekly Tesco shop and very disappointed to find the chiller cabinet that used to contain the Woodside Farms Pork chops now contains just Tesco Lamb. Looking in the Pork section could only find the Tesco range of Pork products (a lot more expensive and thinner chops). I asked one of the staff nearby to be told that the Woodside Farms products have been discontinued. Can anyone tell me is this true or only a supply issue?

Woodside Farm, Grower's Harvest Farm Grown, Rosedene Farms, Stockwell & Co - there are several others, are all ultra-budget brand names used by Tesco. Stockwell is named after T.E. Stockwell (the Tes in Tesco). As you can see, Tesco really like using the word "farm" on their budget ranges.

These (especially their overuse of the word "farm") are all used to mislead people about products and give them a false sense of security about their origins, that they somehow come from lovely little farms.

A few decades ago these products would have been in very plain packaging and sometimes given a saint's name as the brand (e.g. the old St. Michael brand in M&S).

About a decade ago they were just called "Tesco Value". Nothing to do with St Michael.

St Michael wasn't a budget range though. It was the sole range stocked at Marks and Spencer at the time, irrespecrtive of the quality of the item.
So it has nothing to do with Tesco renaming Tesco Value to compete with Lidl/Aldi who use nonsense brands for all their own-brand stuff, as Tesco still also use the Tesco brand name as well, whereas with M&S at the time of using St Michael it was their only brand name used.

You stating "A few decades ago these products would have been in very plain packaging and sometimes given a saint's name as the brand" is incorrect as that was never done by Tesco or M&S. When the items were in plain packaging at supermarkets they were Tesco Value, Sainsbury's Basics, Kwik Save No Frills etc.
