NIP for previous owner of house

Been 6 months and he only paid for redirection for 3 months it seems. Didn't get electoral register updated (I had to get them deleted) and by the looks hasn't changed his driving licence address.

Caused us LOADS of hassle when we moved in. Never met anyone like it. Cost us £1000s on things like new boiler within 2 weeks. Still considering legal action for that.

Anyway, so this NIP turns up from August. Looks like he hired a van and got caught by speed camera (he must have hired it because, from experience, they send the NIP to hire company who then give them address so it takes a few weeks).

I've got an idea where hes moved to - postie told us general area and land registry site I can see only house sale.

Hes got loads of debts - we get the letters so I think hes trying to hide. Bit dodgy to hire a car with false address and out of date driving licence.

So what would you do? Tempted to either let the police know the address I think hes moved to or just let it escalate when no-one replied to the NIP.

  • We always knew he had financial issues......

Seems he paid for post office redirection for 3 months but now we're getting LOTS of final demand letters for credit cards etc.

He hadn't taken himself off the electoral register for this address (I have done now!) but, assuming hes in the area, not added himself also.

We've had a speeding fine also so he hasn't changed the address on that either.

I get the impression hes trying to hide from his debts.....
What can I do? I just don't want to have bailiffs on my doorstep looking for money?

I would simply tell the police that he is no longer living there and let them find him. I would not give them another address unless I knew for certain that is where he moved to.

Return everything not known at address.

Unless compelled by the High Court, anyone coming to your door asking for money has as much power as the milkman to come in, and besides if he doesnt live there whats the worry?

Presumably you have a council tax bill in your name. Print one off and have it handy near the door to show to any callers for the previous occupant. "He doesnt live here any more, we moved in in month/year, here is our council tax bill" normally works fine.

I don't see what harm it would do to give them the address? Obviously he might not be there any more, but that's for somebody else to figure out.

If they have a high court writ then can clamp the car (of course if they know its the debtor)
  • Im right its an offence not to change your address on your driving licence?

6 months is a long time to argue about not having got round to it lol.

But its your car. Show its yours and clamp is removed.

    As said, no issue.
