NMPA changes - taking pension at 55 before 2028

My husband was planning early retirement aged 55 (born November 1971) on 1 April 2027 -  he would be 55 before the changes to NMPA in April 2028.  However his employers pension provider have written to tell him those born after April 1971 cannot take their pension until age 57 even before the government changes come into effect April 2028 - so he cannot take it aged 55 in 2027.  All our online research seems to say you can retire at 55 in 2027 before the government changes.
Has anyone else come across this?  Am I missing something?
Thank you for any advice

Unfortunately this is one scenario where it is your husbands pension scheme who hold the answers.  You (he) will need to speak with them and ask them to explain and confirm why 2027 (assuming it isn't just a typo)..

...or the scheme may not hold the answers because there is still no clarity from the government on possible transitional arrangements for people born on or after 6 April 1971, have taken benefits at age 55 using drawdown, but who will not have reached age 57 by 6 April 2028.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
