I am looking to buy solar powered security cameras .Have relied on security lights without incident but neighbour was broken into who also had neither alarm or cameras. At my age I do not want to be messing about with cameras setting every day so am looking for a set up where I can set all cameras to sleep from say dawn to dusk every day and needn't have to alter settings unless I have to .Set and forget is what I want. They also need to be subscription free.
Can anybody recommend a camera system that allows this

Why dont you want them operational in the day? Both times our home was broken into was daytime not night.

We are always at home either one of us  plus grand children . Am always doing jobs around, in or in garage.
We are not interested in tech and and wish to have some form of visual security now.Our home is actually quite hard to burgal as assessed by the police who did a neigbourhood visit .

I think it's pretty odd to want a security system that's only active at night?

What if you got broken in to while you were out shopping or on holiday? My stepdad was burgled twice and both times were during the day. Night is pretty much the only time you can guarantee people will be in!

You should also consider an alarm system (alongside cameras or as an alternative). Mine has motion sensors in each room and sensors on the doors. I set it when I get out, and 'part set' it when I go to bed (to prevent me setting off the motion sensors). If you looked into smart solutions, you could probably get a system that automatically arms when you leave the house (using presence sensing on your phone) or sets at a certain time. Unfortunately these smart systems are typically vulnerable to wifi/power outages (but are much cheaper to install than a traditional hardwired system - I'm fortunate that mine came with my house).

I will add that unfortunately in my stepdads situation, the thieves got away with it (pre-cameras and post-cameras) as they had their faces covered (as you'd expect in hindsight) and police don't want to investigate if it's not obvious who it was. Alarms act as a deterrent as no-one will continue a burglary with a siren bounding down the street.

Unfortunately I don't have a recommendation for a solar-powered system that does not include a subscription, though I'm sure it could probably be achieved with Ubiquiti with a bit of know how.

You have never left the house together or gone on hoilday? I found that hard to believe.

If it's the visual deterrence, just put up fake cameras.

They'll be about as much use as a camera which is disabled 2/3rds of the day.

Thanks for reply, after living here for 50 years alarms are ignored by all and seen as a false alarm.
Both entry doors lead you to another door which is locked before you get in to main interior of house.
Just to add that son stays here to see his mates when we holiday and we go out at night at weekends.

I understand that happens, but it's about the effect on a burglar - do you think many burglars will carry on robbing a house with an alarm going off? When my siren goes off it's completely deafening. Most will instinctively just run. It's not about the neighbours noticing the alarm, calling the police and the police arriving to catch them in the act with the alarm going off the whole time (pessimistically I wouldn't rely on the police at all).

So do you have exactly two entrances into the house and both of them have another (locked door) to get through? At least in my stepdads case, they didn't break in through the front door, but the back (through the garden, out of public eyesight).

I don't work for an alarm company, I don't care whether you get alarms or not - if you don't want to you don't have to, I was just pointing out that they can often be a better deterrent than cameras (though ideally you'd have both), which can be easily countered by simply wearing a balaclava, or a scarf over your face, or just not looking in the cameras direction.

Ours was the same, in both cases they prised open a window (which was locked shut)

We have Blink cameras from Amazon. Allow you to set a active & inactive time. Also have a doorbell from them, which does record 24/7 & covers drive to front door.
No subscription required & records to usb drive on hub.

TP-Link solar powered cameras and the Tapo app (android smartphone) fulfil the criteria the OP listed including Sunrise/Sunset. I use their cameras, though I've no personal experience of their solar powered offerings.
