    Yes but it’s a converted house made into two flats so just us and the upstairs flat to split it with.

    I wonder if he's meant don't claim on your actual flat insurance since you have the freehold insurance which should cover the structure of the property itself? So you'd inflict premiums on the insurance which just covers your flat (i.e. internal issues like wiring or plumbing) if you contact them, but then also increased insurance on the one used by the freeholder which is for the external building itself.

    You need to contact your insurance, just need to decide which one!

    Thanks. Do you mean the difference between buildings insurance and contents insurance? We (us and the upstairs flat) own the freehold so we jointly pay the buildings insurance.
