My goodness Bootsing is soooooooooooooo much harder than it sounds!!

My friend and I set a budget for each other when buying gifts of £5 and then we compete to see who can get the most stuff! Her birthday is coming up so I thought I would see what I could get from Boots.

Yesterday I visited my local store and was hoping to get a bargain or two.
I got the following from the machine:
    * Free botanics bathing miniature when you buy any full size bathing product.
    * 100 points on the Botanics bath, body and face accessory.
    * Free 17 make up wipes when spending £5+ on 17 make-up.
I picked up several items of make up in the sale - foundation £2, 2 eyeshadows £1 each and a lipgloss £1 but they had no wipes left in stock so I decided to put the make up back although I felt embarrassed doing so!!
(I was going to make up a hamper with the items for a friends birthday)
Also after looking around I saw a nice gift set in theBotanics range with bubble bath, and 2 other bath products and thought it would work out that it cost £4 instead of £5 because of the 100 points and then a product free so I could put all the items in a hamper instead of the 17 stuff.
However when going through the till neither of the coupons could be used. After attempting to put the coupons through the SA had a look on the vouchers and said 'oh these state that they cannot be used when buying gifts' and gave me the vouchers back. Now I didn't realise that these vouchers could not be used on gift purchases!!!
I am just a learner after all! :D

Today I went to the Metro Centre and I returned the Botanics stuff seeing as that was a full £5 spend and would mean I couldn't get anything else for my friend.

My MIL (to be) owed me 600 points as I bought something for her off my card - so I decided to get a No7 lip gloss and body shimmer set for £6 from her card so we were quits but I had the voucher for free No 7 Highlights and was advised that I couldn't use any vouchers if I was paying using my card so said I would pay with credit card instead.
Anyway after scanning everything the coupon would not work because it cannot be used when purchasing gifts!! So I left the highlight as didn't want to pay for that as I wouldn't normally pay as much for something like that.
Anyway the mouthwash we were charged £1.99 instead of the 99p advertised and also I used 2 skincare vouchers for 2 Time Delay products but only one worked so was charged for the second item and didn't get my voucher back! :(

What a faff on! I don't know how you lot get all of these bargains!! I am sooooo jealous!! :(

was disappointingly told today by no7 manager that it is one magazine per card per month, and in no uncertain terms told that if anyone takes more for free that is theft as any additional ones are a £1, and they are trying to clamp down on it (security to have eyes on them) as it is losing them money printing costs etc. id rather pay a £1 than get a tap on my should outside and dragged back in - oh the shame that would bring ! guess i will have to make do with my one voucher then

I'm going to check later whether it says anywhere on or inside the magazine that it is one per Advantage Card per month. I know it says free to Advantage Card holders on the cover so I'd say, unless additional terms are printed clearly elsewhere, Boots would be on very sticky footing to attempt any sort of action againt any Advantage Card holder taking more than one mag. I know in my case that should I be collared by a security guard for this I would be taking a very swift trip to see a solicitor. I really am getting heartily sick of the few jumped up SAs who seem to think of themselves as the Boots Police. Regardless of what Boots intend with regard to points, magazines and offers, if they don't set the terms and conditions clearly or carefully enough then they have only themselves to blame if an offer costs them more than anticipated. It's only to be expected that some customers will want to obtain the maximum benefit available from offers and it's hardly as if Boots operate as a charity anyway - they certainly make more than enough from me!

So far I've had no problem with SAs refusing to honour the printed terms of vouchers, even in the case of apparent glitches, but I won't hesitate to make a very big song and dance if it ever happens. It's NOT up to SAs to interpret the terms or to decide what we may or may not do.

Our store has too many magazines at the moment that we now are giving them away for free to everyone, no limit to how many you can take

Yes it is true, but once you get the hang of it will be much easier and almost all will come naturally to you!! and even the most experienced bootsers come back to the forum and ask questions!! Have a look through crazyposhgal's first post and try to learn the rules. Some of them are intuitive, if you assume Boots wants you to spend as much "money" as possible. That is why most people here end up with loads of points (I've read £300 somewhere!!!!), because you cannot use the points and use offer coupons at the same time.

You've stumbled into a few of the rules of boots points:
    - you cannot pay with points when using vouchers. also if you pay with points you do not earn till spill vouchers.
    - if you've got more than one voucher alike you need to split the transactions. ask that to the SA in the beginning, so that they do not give you "the look".
    - yes, most acm vouchers say they do not work with minis of gift sets and this is why this forum is useful: we will try to see if the transactions go through without the till beeping, otherwise, we cannot expect them to honour the voucher.

Suggestion: To kick start you gift for your friend why not get yourself £5 topup, get a till voucher for £5 off and get one of those (almost) free time delay. Ask around if, for instance, your mum or someone else needs some essentials (soap, shampoo, paracetamol, cotton buds) and do another £5 transaction to earn another voucher and get another time delay item!! or olay cleanser, polisher.

The N7 glitch that has been reported seems nice as well, so you can try that one as well.
You may end up with a lot more than £5 of gifts for a small investment.

PS: When I need to buy stuff with £5 off I end up buying lots of topups!!

Because there is nothing left. I have been two boots over the last two days and they had nothing under £5 in the time delay range.

Mind you off to another tomorrow.

I must be lucky then - I went in to 5 different Boots yesterday (London: The Strand, Covent Garden, Oxford Street, Regent St and Piccadily) and got something for less than a fiver in each of them! :D:D:D

Managed to pick up a Time Delay toner and cleanser for £4.50 each so free with my vouchers.

Also got a Olay polisher for £7.50, used £5 voucher and 300 points from ACM so technically free with an extra 50 points to spare.

Couldn't see much else available for less than £5.

I have just been through a magazine and can find no mention of them being rationed to one per card. All it says, is what it says on the front, '£1, or free to Advantage card holders, please take to the till to be scanned.'
As I said, I have had several magazines a day sometimes, always having them scanned and not once has the till beeped to say that that was wrong. I shall continue to do so.
