Scallions?

Options
Can you use scallions to make egg & onion sandwiches? Also, I had an onion which scallions started to grow from so I potted it. I was wondering how I was supposed to cut them?

Scallions are spring onions. An onion sprouting doesnt give scallions, its just sprouted onion!

To save any confusion here Jo, I will clarify for all the MSE folk who don't know! Scallion is the Irish term for spring onions.

I'm not sure about how you cut them, I've never grown them. Any time I buy them, they still have the bulb and roots at the end. You can use them for egg and onion sandwiches, just the same taste only green shows in the mix.

Found THIS for you on Google. HTH

Thanks for responding! A few cooks told me they were scallions so I presumed they knew better.

The word scallion is also used in North America so you're likely to see it listed in American recipes. However they call aubergines "egg plants" while like the English the Irish stick to aubergine. (Don't know if the Americans know what the colour aubergine is or if you'd call it "egg plant" as well).
