Easy to spend nothing on music these days?

How many here spend nothing on music?
Nobody I know buys physical music anymore.
A few I know use Spotify.
Other than going to a gig  is there any need to spend money on music anymore?

I have bought the occasional Cd but very rarely now. I have Spotify and pay for the family premium subscription.

    Depends on what you want.

I have Spotify because I want to be able to listen to a bunch of different music at home/in the car/in the gym/at work/out and about, it is incredibly cheap per house of music listened to. Sometimes I also listen to the radio when I do not fancy picking the songs. The Spotify AI DJ is actually quite good at picking music but it prattles on inanely and has one of the worst accents one will ever be subjected to outside of speaking to a call centre. I have a bunch of vinyl which I also listen to on occasion, but that is more of a sit down and listen than whilst doing other things. I also have a few hundred CDs but have not used them in at least a decade, my only way to play them now would be on my PS5.

There is no need to spend money on music, but relatively small monthly costs can make it much easier to consume it and enjoy it.
  • I put all my CDs onto my NAS (took a while!) and stream them to various devices, as and when I want.

I still buy physical music or downloads and merchandise at shows as I want the artists I enjoy to be able to afford things like food and shelter. They're not billionaire pop stars, if that was my taste in music I might take a different approach as the concert tickets would be 10x the price...

Free music can be had on Spotify or Youtube Music if you don't mind the occasional advert.  I pay for both.  I think most people nowadays realise that music isn't or shouldn't be free, otherwsie the artist is getting no money.  Streaming works out far cheaper and is a lot more convenient
