Forgotten Works Pension

I moved house and a had little works pension from 2006 possible till 2007 I had forgotten about it and the Pension Provider wrote to my old address but letters got returned I have found the pension details now albeit 17 years later. I contacted them and they told me my pension was closed.  Am I still entitled to my money I paid in and any interest it would have gained till now 2025? Because they closed the scheme does that mean i'm not entitled to any interest till now? I had never contacted them to close the scheme, I just forgot I had it.

Have you obtained copies of all the explanatory correspondence that they'd originally sent?  If not, that would be a good place to start.

You need to ask the pension provider - 'closed' could simply mean closed to further contributions. But you really do need to ask them what options you have, if any.

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

You would have thought that information would have been provided when they advised it was closed.

Edit: When the OP mentions "closed" it implies to me it could have been a DB pension. Assuming there was more information given to them then that then they need to post more info (no personal of course)

Pensions do not normally pay interest.
Usually the money is invested in the financial markets, so it depends what return those investments have gained ( or lost) Hopefully with the timescale involved they should have increased quite a bit, hopefully.

Pensions do not just close because they cannot locate you.   Something must have triggered that closure. ie. were the funds transferred to a different scheme?

You need to ask them why it closed when you didn't ask for it to be, and what happened to the money.  It may be terminology that is leading to a miscommunication.   For example, pension companies often have closed books but it doesnt mean closed in the sense of the money being lost but instead means the money is there but in a pension type that is no longer available to add new money too but what is there is still able to be transferred to another pension (or benefits taken from it if you are old enough).
