New Year... New challenge

Hi Everyone,
Last summer I took my children on holidays to Butlins, we had a suite in the hotel and on the second day we were there I discovered that I couldnt get any money out with my switch card (up to overdraft limit) or on ny credit cards (all maxed out)It was horrible, there I was with three chidren in this lovely room that I couldnt afford. As I cried bitterly and all the children huddled in their room miserably playing on the complimentary PS2 I realised that I had to take control of my spending and start doing something about my finances rather than just hoping something would turn up. I came on this site then and was inspired, I got a new job that paid me another £15 K year and took some extra part time work on as well. I have manged to pay off my overdraft (£1300) and paid for Christmas in cash (never ever happened before) But I think Im slipping, I have moved jobs again and will have double the income that I used to have but I dont want to fall into the trap of just paying bits and pieces off, I guess if I have more income I dont want to spend it all and end up with the same amount of debt. Second wake up call, got a letter from a CC yesterday to tell me that as a result of them checking my credit rating they were reducing my limit-to what I have on the card-fair enough, my credit rating is just pants because I have a terrible history of missing payments, I pay but late and those on DD would often get refused by my bank, but this has sort of made me think, hang on, need to get this money thing sorted. Any help appreciated, I think what Im hoping for is a bit of moral support!.

Hi Cherub,
You sound like you've made huge progress already - well done on taking on extra work and clearing the overdraft! Congratulations on the new job also!
Why not post you SOA and let people give you suggestions about how to clear those cc debts? It might be a good time to have another look at all your bills and outgoings, to see if they can be trimmed.
I'm sorry your last trip to Butlins didn't turn out so well, here's to a debt-free and cash-only holiday in 2008!I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

Hi there. I'm sorry about your dreadful lesson at Butlins. What a terrible time that must have been for you and your kids. Bless!
I think splishsplash is right though, I've seen many a miracle performed with SOAs, even on those seemingly hopeless cases (which yours is not). Good luckGrocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0
