ACI not accepted 50% full and final settlement offer. Next steps?

I have 3 debts all with ACI and have been for about 2 years and have been making token payments if £1 to each following advice.
I had made a full and final offer of 50% settlment on each account debt which has been declined.
I am naturally confused as I am quite sure this is considerably more than they would have purchased the debts for.
Can anyone please advise me on the next best steps as I would ideally like to close my accounts but cant really offer more?
Many thanks

They want to maximise their profit. If you'd offered 10%, they might have countered with 40%.

ACI have bought a lot of very old debt. Have you demanded CCAs if relevant?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Thanks, CCA's were obtained at the onset.
I should have pointed out in my post they had responded with 90% which was when I then countered at 50%.
Whereas I understand theyre not obligated to accept an offer I expected my offer to be accepted as they are making a considerable profit based on this.

Is it worth any further negotiation or requesting an escalation?
    Thanks

You can negotiate but 50 - 90 is a big gap.

I'd be inclined to stop the payments and then try again in a few months

That's what I'd do too. Assuming they have defaulted then you aren't paying any interest and you have a fixed date when they will drop off your credit report. If they want to wait longer for the money then that's more interest for you.

I'm not sure about the scale of the debt or why you want to clear it but you need to leave this for a year or so and then try again with a smaller offer. In the meantime enjoy the cheap interest free loan.

Just after Christmas is a good  time to initiate settlement deals, money is generally tight, so debt buyers notice a steep drop off in client payments, its also close to a new tax year, so they may be looking to off load old accounts and maximise the tax breaks they get, or simply clear the decks for new portfolios.

I`d try again around that time and see what response you get.
