Hi
Was wondering has anyone got people in to cut down trees around their home.
I have several large trees which I want cut down to ground - I have a large oak tree about 10/12 mtrs height and was quoted £1k by a company just to cut down as I will burn small branches etc and cut the rest for blocks.
£1k I think is a bit much just to cut down as they were not asked to remove anything.
Anyone know anybody can do this even someone who does this in their spare time?
Craigavon area by the way.
Thanks

Otherwise, why not tackle it yourself if you think it's an easy job?1 -
I agree with Emmia - it's a very dangerous thing to undertake with a tree so big. You need letters, ropes and pulleys, chainsaws - all of which takes specialist training to do safely. If you think you can do it without injuring or killing yourself or others or having some portion of the tree crashing on to your or a neighbour's house then you go for it.
Before you do anything check that you'll be covered by your insurance if you're doing it yourself and no matter who does the work also that the tree doesn't have a protection order on it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I wouldn’t be trusting some random person working in their spare time to cut down a large oak tree safely. When we had a 300 year-old oak that was dying cut down at my workplace the first few local tree surgeons wouldn’t touch it, saying it was too big a job for them. We had to get an approved list from the council in the end.Get more quotes, but don’t be surprised if they come out as similar. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Large tree, large bill. It may seem a lot but if they were chipping it & taking it all away it would be at least doub!e the cost. If you want the stumps ground down to ground or below level you could add more cost.0

I paid £1100 to have a large horse chestnut tree taken down.
They took the small scrap away and left the good stuff for me to chop and split for fire wood. It took me a month to split it all as it was big.
It is skilled work and ultimately I was left with a couple of years worth of wood to burn so you do kind of get back some of the cost if your not buying it in. Obviously it has to be dried out over time before use.

I paid £300 recently to have a 3-4m meter willow tree taken down. No working at height as far as I could tell (they took it down in about 20 mins - one person with a chainsaw on a pole, three people carrying away and chipping the branches), branches really thin above 2m. It felt like a lot, but they have insurance, time and money on tool and machine maintenance and replacement, vehicle costs, fuel, time spent quoting, advertising etcStatement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline.
