You can take 2 approaches to buying a bed for your daughter, buy cheap and most likely nasty that will end up with springs pokeing through or colapseing and proberly not last very long. There is a furniture shop near where I live that that is always advertising beds for £30-£50 the matresses are up against the wall outside and can be folded in half.

The other option is to spend a little more get somthing that will last and be comfortable for your daughter. I often see people buying reduced size beds for their kid then 3 years later buying a full sized bed becsaue they have outgrown it. money wasted as far as I'm concerned.

Avoid metal frames if you can especially for the slatts, wood is much more forgiving, it will bend and flex and return to its original shape as long as it isnt pushed too far (snaps) a metal frame will bend and not return to its original shape eventuallty it will bend and snap espeicailly if you try to return it to its original shape.

I don`t want to buy cheap & nasty, I want a good bed that will last, but they seem extremely expensive & I mean I personally think that £350+ for a single price silly. or maybe its just me? I would like a happy medium... if you can see where I am coming from? thanks for your imput , I am now slighly concerned as I have found a lovely bed, but it has a metal frame with wood slatts is this not going to be any good??

    Thanks for your help

Have a look around your local furniture shops (not the national chain ones). I picked up a decent one for £200 delivered and it was a good brand.

Both my kids have this, with an ikea mattress and weve had no probs.

hmmm I thought I replied to this again earlier today.

wood slatts are fine, they flex and retain their shape well unless you really go some they will snap but metal cross peices bend and loose their strength so are no good.
