Do I have to start doing self assessment tax returns if I receive an annual pension

I guess the answer depends on my pension provider and other sources of taxable income.

Ive never filled a self assessment form in, and I am a bit worried i will mess it up.

I will be receiving ~25K but I will have other income. I will not be claiming the state pension for ten more years so for the moment we can ignore that

You guess correct - it will depend what the 'other income' is so would be helpful if you had said what it was.

If employment income or savings interest/dividends then no need for Self-Assessment Your new pension will be taxed via PAYE.

What are the mysterious "other sources of taxable income" you refer to?

And a rough idea of the amounts involved.
