Morning Gers, thanks for starting.
When I got up the sun was shining but it's now clouded over and looks overcast. Yesterdays promised rain was just a small shower, rain is forecast today.
Yesterday I popped to Al*I at just the right time to get 50% reductions, Aberdeen Angus rump steaks, lamb chops and cod fillets, so sorting out the freezer is today's job. Nothing else planned.
Last nights tea was what we call an all day breakfast, I've seen others call it breakfast for dinner. Tonight to be decided from the goodies purchased yesterday.
Have a good day all, take care.11 -
Morning all. Thanks for starting us off @GersSunny at the moment but rain later with strong gusts of wind.Comparing my new expensive hearing aids to my NHS ones and there seems little difference apart from my right ear being slightly better so I emailed my NHS audiology department and they're early starters as I've literally just had an e mail offering me an appointment for next Tuesday to re-programme them. Great service. No plans for today except wearing a black armband after my favourite football team got disgracefully knocked out of the Carabao Cup last night <sniff sniff>Have a good day all xx12

It's gloomy here this morning, and that's just outside! My difficult conversation yesterday went very well, the woman was very apologetic and, I think, didn't mean to be so challenging. All is good again. Phew! I celebrated by clearing out the pile of things heaped on the printer and big shelf in the utility room, I needed the printer so decided not to put back everything but tackle it. I am so tidy with pockets of disarray in places. All is tidy again. It feels good.Yesterday I to write a cheque, for the first time in ages, and noticed that the issue date on the cheques was back in 2013. From needing a new cheque book every three or four months to not in 12 years is weird. Using my mobile is the now my usual way of paying. life moves on so fast.Today I will go out, even if the weather is rotten. I've spent too much of August being slothful which is not good for me. I have a load of stuff in the car for the CS and textile bin.@Chrisca - good choice I think. It's always tempting to think that more expensive is better. As for footie - I join you in the sobbing corner for my own team, though it was expected and not as shocking as yours.Happy holidays to those heading off today or tomorrow, exciting places coming up. I hope that everyone is doing well. Hugs all round.13

Hi all
There’s a glimmer of sunshine at the moment but it’s due to be rainy. A couple of heavy showers yesterday.I have an appointment with the chest freezer 🤣 it’s needing both defrosting and a sort out - no one has any idea what’s in there so some organisation required. Also need to make a batch of nutty lentil pate although I need to corral some small containers first for storage. Some craft work to do later if I have time and motivation.Hope everyone has a good day and the holiday makers enjoy their trips.AA11 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS. I'm pleased the air was cleared yesterday with no boxing gloves needed.
I think today promises to be a rinse and repeat of yesterday when we had a glorious morning with some rain falling as we were awaiting our lunch. Then a lovely afternoon with a torrential downpour as we were waiting for our little bus to set off for its trundle up the hill to home.. Neither downpour lasted long enough to do any good unfortunately.
We had a pretty frugal day out (other than lunch 'n wine) I picked up a brand new pair of lovely leather gloves in a cs for £2.95 and a few necessary bits in Boyes and that was it. Last of the big spenders!
I have decided to add to the little list of those going away this w/e but nowhere exotic, just my usual trip to the caravan for a week or so. I certainly don't live up to my username these days. That was chosen in a different life.
Have a lovely day if you can folks with ((HUGS)) for all in need. Take care be safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here but rain and storms due later on it’s difficult to imagine it raining now as the sky is clear but we will see.
Yesterday went well with Matt he lasted longer than the week before which is good, he was quite tired so needed lots of cuddles and hand holding which I don’t mind, he has been away from mum for two weeks so is probably missing her.
Today I am going up to mums for a few hours work I will fill three weeks worth of meds boxes for her for when we are away and cook her a dinner for tonight / tomorrow, I will do her some washing and have a general tidy / clean round.
Dinner tonight is to be decided but DD is off today so she will probably cook.
Tomorrow I have my manicure and then off to get my waxing done 😳 which is never pleasant but needs must and then Saturday will be putting the last bits into the case and making sure we have everything.
Have good days all and take care xx11 -
Morning all and thanks for starting @Gers. Today's weather looks set to be a rinse and repeat of yesterday - a sunny morning, rain in the afternoon followed by late evening sunshine, with top temps up to 19 deg. The rain didn't arrive until about 6.30 pm yesterday, later than expected, but it was quite a heavy downpour. Although I hate to say it, we need more - looking at the long range forecast we may well get it.
I had a trawl through summer clothes yesterday afternoon and was pleased to find most things have been worn, apart from a couple of "dressy" tops. I don't often go anywhere to wear them nowadays but they still fit and I like them so am keeping them. You never know when I might need to get glammed up!A couple of T-shirts have been moved to the nightwear drawer and I'll keep the rest to wear as extra layers under jumpers in winter. So, nothing for the CS but a useful exercise as I now know what I don't need more of! In the evening I enjoyed catching up with the Sewing Bee and can't say I was surprised by who was voted out; I think I know who may be going next week.
Grocery delivery isn't due until this afternoon (all P&C) so before that I'll busy myself with an inside fridge clean/tidy up as I know it has the makings of a chicken casserole in there - not a great deal of chicken but plenty of veg! - plus a tomato-based pasta sauce for the freezer.
@Izzy - Thank goodness your manager rescued you from the toxic woman! It isn't good when someone like that latches on to you so keep on trying to avoid her as much as you can - in the meantime, rant away!
@Auntycaz - Thanks for the heads up on the NHS voucher codes for glasses. When I got my new specs last year I wasn't on PC but now I am so it's useful to know although I hope I won't need replacements any time soon.
@Chrisca - Great service indeed, I think you've made the right decision on the hearing aids.
@Gers - Good to hear the difficult conversation was all done and dusted with a satisfactory outcome, such a relief. I haven't had a cheque book for years but do remember the last time I used one it was returned as I didn't fill it out correctly!
@TA - It's good to hear you're making another trip to the caravan this weekend but I really, really hope you won't get washed away!
Happy holidays to our travellers, take care everyone and have a great day. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.12 -
Hi everyone,
I've just realised that I never finished the post I started yesterday.
Chrisca, me too. It was so dire I stopped watching after 30 minutes and then turned on for the penalties, I wish I hadn't.
We went to Cambridge yesterday, mainly for Steve's blood test in a park and ride on the outskirts. Addenbrookes started these drive thru tests during Covid, you don't even need to get out of the car, much better than sitting in a waiting room of sick people.
We then went into the town to look at sofas but didn't see anything better than the one we identified a few months ago so I think we will go and order that before Sunday as it's 20% off till then. We've decided to replace the carpet with a wooden floor and will repaint the room to cover the marks inevitably left by the children. We're also having an air-con unit fitted in the room because it's south facing and becomes unbearably hot in the summer, hopefully it won't guarantee us a dreadful summer next year.
Steve is golfing this morning, I'm going to carry on collecting together the bits that got left behind in the move and deep cleaning the kitchen. The cleaner is finishing tomorrow, she is moving to Hull otherwise I'd have carried on with her but I've decided not to replace her as yet, we'll see how we go.
Have a good day.11 -
Morning All
Having a sneaky 5 mins on here whilst at work!
There was torrential rain here yesterday, there was a teacher event on here just after 3 and everyone coming in was absolutely soaked. Thankfully it went off by the time I went home.
I've been having problems with my new phone - incoming calls don't show the caller ID and it all got very frustrating. Thanks to folk on the Techie board and those on a Sky forum it's now fixed. Easy to do when you know how. turns out it's Sky's update that has caused the problem but they are unwilling to acknowledge it. Thought I was going mad!
Gosh, that lady sounds like hard work Izzy!
Glad your new chap was ok yesterday Ruby.
Pleased to hear your conversation went well Gers, always horrid to have that hanging over you.
Yorklass I watched the Sewing Bee too, thought it would be the other person who would be leaving but I'm sure that one's time will be up next week.
Belated birthday wishes Rosy.
Great bargains Remmie.
Washing to do later and a tidy round.
Must get on and so some proper work! Take care. XX9 -
Morning all. Thank you for the lovely birthday wishes. I didn't get on here yesterday as it was busy from morning till night with various visitors, phone calls etc. An unexpected caller was my eldest DN with her 2 boys. Her eldest has grown into a lovely teenager, haven't seen him for about 8 months - he was surprisingly chatty
. The youngest played with Lendog all the time, racing around the room
I got some lovely gifts & vouchers to celebrate my 70th - how did that get here so fast
? Doesn't seem that long ago I was bemoaning being 40!
We watched that match @Chrisca50, couldn't believe how many penalties there were!Just taken LDog on the park, first time I've been on for 2 weeks as it was taken over by caravans & trucks belonging to travellers. The council were on site clearing up the awful messBack to normal today after the birthday celebrations. I want to study one of the books I got, a cookbook for air fryers avoiding UPF's- looks like some good stuff in there. Luckily the house is still fairly tidy.Hope you all have a good day:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)9
