Gas cooker clearances

Hello there,

Please see proposal to vary council's Improvement notice image 1
BS 6172 image 2
Manufacturer's installation manual image 3

The property is rented as being "safe, secure accommodation for the elderly", what standard should the LA officer be recommending.

He says "I am removing the 300mm of worktop to either side of the cooker requirement. Whilst this is an ideal design standard, its main purpose is to prevent small children from grabbing pan handles and pulling from the hob."

What say you?

Thanks in advance

Not sure that I understand the question re changes but clear worktop either side of hob would facilitate any one safely taking a pan off heat or holding ingredients to be added to cooking.

I would not have thought that there was anything in legislation that particularly targetted this feature towards homes with small children
