Great reading through the responses at how many of us ignore dates
But what a sign of "modern times" that people are really scared to use something beyond an arbitary date, even by one dayGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -

Look, when I was still living at home, ages ago, my mother would freeze stuff and then retrieve it out of the dark recesses of the freezer sometimes years after, and I survived! (Do I get the right to join the Use By Date Survivors Club?) hehehe

Possibly a stupid question, but I've never heard of freezer burn before. What does it look like? And what effect does it have on the food?0

I was not knocking the dates, just the fact that some folk are now so unsure about food safety.
I also save money by buying OOD stuff, for instance I have just finished the last of my large tub of Yeo Valley Oreganic Greek style yogurt, alleged expiry date was 26th Dec. Cost 10p, normally over £1
Tomorrow I start on my Asda organic yogurt, expiry date 2 JanGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0
