Due to allergies was thinking about throwing out and buying new pillows/duvets,what should I go for?   It would be for a king size bed for me and single size for ten year old.    What togs for winter and summer?   And pillow
 types?

I've got a 4.5 tog single, 4.5 tog king

10.5tog king 7.0 tog single kid uses in summer

How do u know the age of them?

I also bought these clear zip up cases to keep dust off, good for storing duvets etc?

Attached photo of bags, should I use to store them?

It depends onn how warmm you expect to be 4.5tog  is usually best for summer weight and anything over 10.5tog for winter.
You can buy some that join both making 15 tog for really cold weather.
Again what you spend depends on your budget I often see quite cheap ones around.

I'd also consider whether you want synthetic or natural fillings e.g. feathers, wool etc.

Personally I find cheap duvets and pillows tend to disintegrate fairly quickly or are (in the case of pillows) horrible to sleep on.

I use washable quilted zipped pillow protectors which help to keep the pillows themselves clean and the protectors can be washed with the bedding.

What's your budget for these replacements?

John Lewis has a 10.5 single duvet in their anyday range for £18.50

Or a made to order single size winter weight for £4,935 (no, that isn't a typo)

You can get storage bags that don't require a vacuum but do the same thing. I got mine from Poundland but they'll be in one of the mass marketing stores.

I've used those for bedding and clothes. But apart from space I didn't find they make much difference to dust and stuff as that happens as soon as they are out.

Difficult so advise without knowing what you are allergic to.

I'm still using my great grandmother's feather pillows. The dense ticking is also waxed inside preventing dust getting in or out.
I've emptied the feathers and aired and washed the ticking obvs.
It's an old trick and it's hard to find such dense ticking but possible. I've also made new covers that are stitched over the old.

You can find nice feeling protectors too but again they need some real searching out.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Me too. Came from CostCo and really does do the job year round.

Also have the polyester protectors for pillows and mattress which get washed whenever the sheets are changed, helps with DH's asthma and reduces staining on the pillows.

It was principally to show the wildly varying costs of duvets. What is your budget for the replacements?

Whether you can wash them depends on the fillings... Synthetic ones can be washed, feathers not so much.
