Opos letter of non existent debt

wonderedalloy
My wife has just received a letter from opos saying she owes money to capquest debt collection via shop direct.
We sent a prove it letter to capquest in may and have now received one from opos.
First question are they allowed to do this as we already sent a prove it letter to capquest
Second what happens if we get no reply from opos about the debt apparently owed. She's never had a shop direct account only I have

Average turn around for post to these companies can be more than 30 days, the new letter will be computer generated tripe that gets spewed out at random.
Give it a couple more weeks then send a reminder to the prove-it letter, the template is the next scroll down from the one you used previously.
Capquest will have bought this debt, and then engaged Opus to collect it on their behalf, they will continue with their standard letters and if you don`t respond further, they will simply return the account to their client.

I agree completely with what sourcrates has said about this.
Just to be sure - has she checked her credit record for anything odd? Might be that someone has used her name setting up an account and she isn't aware. Obviously if there's nothing showing on there then it's likely not going to be an issue.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
