Credit file/mortgage query- HELP!

Hi all…
I am in need of some advice please..
I am currently in the process of moving homes and want to port my mortgage with Santander.
I was successful in getting the DIP, however when I went on to do the application, I was told it had declined due to the following reasons:
- Showing active account for a lease car
- Missed payment in September 2024 for the lease car.

Some background:
- I no longer have the car, I paid the final balance on 23rd July 2024.
- I didn’t miss a payment in September, this must be some sort of error.

Santander have given me 2 options:
- They advised they can appeal the decision if I get a letter from LeasePlan advising that I no longer have an active credit agreement and that they will rectify the missed payment in September.
- I can reapply when it gets to 12 months after the default which would be September 2025.

I am trying to get the required letter for r but the lease company keep telling me they’re dealing with it but can’t give a timeframe- very frustrating!

My question is, if I was to reapply  12 months after the so called default, when would this be? Would it be end of September, start of September? A specific date?
I did ask Santander who couldn’t give me a definitive answer and I don’t really want to do another application if its going to decline again.

I ideally want to stay and port with Santander due to being in a fixed term and I would have to pay a high fee to leave early.
It is so frustrating as I have no other missed payments and an experian credit score of 985/999 but Santander are adamant they are my only two options.

Thank you

option 1 is your best bet - follow their complaint procedures then contact FCA.

The house would have been sold to someone else by the time the FOS (not the FCA) picked up the case. It could take months.

Its also extremely difficult to make a lender lend.

To the OP, do you not have a letter confirming the car had been returned/sold and the contract ended from 2024?

I would start by using something like 'Checkmyfile' to look at the main three agencies and see if you can see the problem that Santander have reported.
If there really is a mistake on one of your credit files then you may be able to get it fixed...
