Hi
I have left hospital after having hesrt attack and I am aesiting for further tests and appointments to work out a plan.
My gp is signing me off for 6 weeks from work when I grt the correct date sorted on tbe fit note..
I have a few events planned for many months at the end of August and September.
I am.ancious that if I can go and if someone woild spot me.
First one is a rugby match and next few are comedy gigs.
I don't want o be stuck in the house all day as i probably would be most of the day when husband returns to work asbi don't drive.
What would you do.

I don't think anyone would begrudge you a night out as part of your general recovery while off work.

Go if you feel well enough, when my OH had a HA he missed out on lots of planned events as he was too tired or having a bad day.
6 years this can still happen albeit less frequently, recovery isn't easy or quick (in his case).

I’d go if you’re well enough. You’ve been in hospital with a heart attack, you have a perfectly valid GP fit note.Who cares what anyone else thinks?
I went on an already agreed holiday to India when I was off work due to my mental health. I needed a break and it helped me to get back to work. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I'm largely housebound through illness but occasionally make it to an event with lots of planning (e.g. staying in a hotel right next door to the theatre). The first thing I'd do in your position is figure out which events are easiest and which events are most important to you and make a plan for what you might do if you can only go to some but not all of the events. In that case you might choose to go to events that are spaced out to keep your spirits up but give you enough rest time in between.
Just before the event I send out an email to the people I'm going with that says
a) please don't post this on social media, my HR contact knows I'm going and is fine with it but I don't want to have awkward conversions with colleagues if I don't have to.
b) here is my health update, I don't want to talk about my health when we're at a fun event, please tell me all the fun things you've been doing.
I also have something prepared to say in case I meet a colleague. I haven't met one yet but it's good to have a one line summary of what's happening with you and then you can turn it to talking about the event itself.

From personal experience, I would take it easy.
You don’t know the cause of the attack for one and putting yourself into a busy, crowded and possibly enclosed environment may trigger something.
However - also listen to your own body.
I would say a lot depends on the circumstances of the attack and if your vitals etc are all within “normal” range (mine weren’t)2 -
As above, being signed off from work doesn't mean you are precluded from going out and in fact, going out is perfectly acceptable as part of your recovery.

The more important question is what your doctor thinks about you doing this sort of thing - they've said you aren't fit for work but are you fit enough to be in a hot/stuffy/crowded environment for hours and possibly risk of catching something off someone especially in a crowded indoor area, best discuss with your doctor if you haven't already.0

Going to a single rugby match is very different than going to work 5 days a week so perfectly reasonable that you may be fit to do one and not the other. That said, would speak to your doctor about it, especially if you are passionate about the game as you probably dont want to have another infarction in the middle of the stadium.2 -

It is more a question of your health than a question of if someone will see you there.0
