Age/length of mortgage

I'll hopefully be going for a self employed mortgage in a few years when I'll be 55. I'm a bit confused as to how my age could affect things. I always thought I would only be able to get a mortgage up to the retirement age (67, 2039), but then I read it's possible to go beyond. I don't/won't have a pension but my book income should go on forever. Would I be able to get at least a 20 year term on a mortgage in 2 years from now?

With some lenders yes.
But what you need to consider is will your income drop? I assume unless your books are selling at a constant level you should be ok, but if you have a peak and and then a drop off after a period then you might need to conisder how you will pay the mortgage down the line.
However, you will have to say that you are prepared to work until whatever age. That doesnt mean you do have to work until that age but you either need to clear the mortgage beforehand or have a way to pay it.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
