HMRC National Insurance Record - Year not Full

Options
I've been looking after my wife's Self Assessment since she became self employed. I've always done them as soon as they arrive and paid them pretty promptly, I've never waited until end of January.
Looking at her NI record, 2022-2023 says
Year is not full
We are checking this year to see if it counts towards your pension. We’ll update your record when this is finished, you do not need to do anything.

I have proof I submitted the Self Assessment and Paid it with copies of HMRCs own receipt.
I have read that this common - https://www.litrg.org.uk/news/update-hmrc-voluntary-class-2-nics-error-check-your-202223-record

The worrying thing is, they say
If it turns out that the payment was not allocated to your National Insurance record as it should have been, we understand you will need to make a separate payment using a special payment reference that HMRC will supply.

Finally, my question

Has anyone else had this problem, and how did they resolve it?  I'm aggrieved to pay again because of HMRC's fault.

Did she have Class 2 NI liability that year?

I'm no accountant, her figures are very simple and I just payt what HMRC tells me.
Her profits every year are below the NIC threshold so we tick the box to pay Class2 voluntarily. so is that a NI Liability or just voluntary payment?.
Same for the years before and after and they show as complete years.

Looking at the LITRG article, it seems that the money might have been returned to you. Have you checked whether that is the case? If so, then paying again is not unreasonable. But in either case, the article suggests that you need to call HMRC’s National Insurance helpline to see what they think the situation is and hopefully agree a plan to straighten it all out. If that still leaves you confused then come back here again with an update. :)

Did you file online? If so, your wife can check on her personal tax return  for a copy of the return . You can then check that you did , in fact , tick the box to pay voluntary contributions.
