    I've been Money Tipped!
First time today I went to Asda armed with £7 of vouchers from Zing via Best mag (Well I was the op). My shop came to £64, never bought any of the goods and lo and behold all £7 knocked of the bill and I know they didnt stock all the items because I checked as I went round. I know my Tesco are very fussy so I thought I would experiment in Asda, I was very pleased!:D

You must be very lucky. None of our Asda stores accept vouchers unless you buy the stuff and then they sort through your bags just to make sure (they don't trust the store computer). On the other hand Tesco will accept anything provided they sell it and you don't try to give them too many.
Our Safeways checkout girls used to ask you if you had any coupons but since they got changed into Sainsburys they don't accept anything. I asked Sainsbury Head Office (via email) what the policy was and they said it was manager's discretion.

It really is pot luck whether your local store co-operates with voucher acceptence or not. My Asda takes them but is a bit picky but my local Tesco have no problems. I think I am the only person who take coupons in there (it's in a posh area) and they call me the coupon man:rolleyes:

As it varies store by store and checkout by checkout here are my tips (for what they're worth) for maximising the chance of them taking coupons:

    1. Always smile and chat to the checkout person. If you can build up a relationship before flashing coupons they are more inclined to accept them or at least refuse in a way that leaves you with some dignity.

    2. Never loose your temper or be snide. They can refuse them if they wish. You catch far more bees with honey than with vitriol and if they really won't take them smile and say that's fine.

    3. The first few times you use them the supervisor or someone from the cash office may be called. Remember their names. It makes it much easier next time if you can tell the cashier the Colleen in the cash office says yes!

    4. Don't take the Michael. I ususally keep my coupons under £8 for a £40 shop. It is people being greedy that often starts stores saying NO.

    5. Once you have cultivated a cashier on each shift who knows you and your coupns stick to them. It makes life soo much easier.

Over the years I've found that my two local Asdas and my local Tesco tend to vary their policy (regardless of what their respective head offices say).

Every now and again they have a crack down and say no, you've got to buy the items, but after a few weeks or months they start accepting them again.

One of our Asda stores usually accepts 10% of vouchers for anything, as long as they stock it, but the other only accepts the '£3 off £30 spend' type of coupon, from other retailers, such as Tesco and Sainsburys.

One cashier told me they ONLY accepted those type from Tesco and Sainsburys, but the following week a cashier accepted a £1 off £30 from Wilkinsons, which I cut from a flyer that came through the door.

Then the other store will say they can only accept one of each coupon, and the next week some nice person who just doesn't give a damn will take everything you've got and charge you whatever is left.

I just usually say, 'can you take some coupons?', smile and hand over a small discreet pile, saying, 'can you see which ones of those I'm allowed to use?' or something similar. If they are fussy, and hand some back, I smile and say thank you, but if they scan them all through without a murmer, (and I think I can get away with it), I usually dig around in my purse and produce a few more.

I usually put a couple of low value ones that I know they will take on top, then put the higher value ones that I really want to use next, in the hope that they'll go through before they get fed up with the idea. :)
