We have some properties near us that are discounted - I think 70%.  You pay only 70% of the market price but when you sell it on, have to sell it at the same discount.  We also have a relative that has a shared ownership home and I'd highly recommend it, its much nicer than the equivalent private ones. Our relative looked at a few and the one with a HA had lower rents and a lower service charge, so its worth shopping around as they all seem to be different.  Lots of different schemes, so keep an eye out and see what you can find.

I didn't think we'd get back on the property ladder, but we were able to take advantage of Help to Buy and its been the best thing we did.  Good luck too!

Worth having a look at local SO developments near you. Some you can buy less than a 25% share, meaning you may be able to afford the owned share without needing a mortgage which may make it more simple.
I live in a rural village with fairly good facilities (compared to my last village), decent shop, 2 pubs, GP surgery, chip shop, craft centre, and there is a new mixed development of SO and social housing opposite us. I'm not usually keen on new developments, but it does have a nice feel to it, always kids out playing, neighbours chatting whilst their dogs play etc. That sort of thing may suit you perfectly by the sounds.

Goodness me - thank you so much everybody for the ideas and the encouragement.  I checked with the dog and he reminded me that he hates seawater and that racing through the fields is more his kind of thing.  Usually he and I go camping so that puts the cruise idea to bed.  Great idea for someone though.  Your village Myci85 sounds exactly what I had in mind.  Good to know they exist - don't suppose it's in the North Midlands, North West or West Yorkshire is it?

Thanks again, will spend today researching more.  Quite excited by some of these possibilities!

West Midlands, so not that far. But around here most villages are being built up with new developments, I'm sure that will be the case elsewhere too.
