How to pay specific years of voluntary NICs

Options
Hello everyone,

I lived abroad for a few years and have requested to pay voluntary contributions to obtain a full state pension when I reach pension age in just under ten years.
I applied before the cut off date and have received an offer to pay a mix of class 3 and class 2 contributions for each the 11 years where my contributions fall short. I only need 6 of the 11 years to put me on course to receive the full state pension. I have identified the 6 cheapest years for me to pay from amongst the 11 years.

On the letter I received there are two reference numbers, one to use to pay class 2 anc the other for paying class 3. I have clicked through the online payment system as far as possible without actually paying but can't find how I pay for the specific years I have selected. All that it appears I can do is select which class I'm paying and enter an amount, with no method to identify which years the payment is for.

Does anybody know how I can pay online and specify for which year the payment is intended?

I've tried calling but can't get through.

thanks

You can send a cheque through the post, with a covering letter stating which years you want to buy, as well as the details that identify you.

I saw that on the letter they sent me. It didn't say who to make the cheque payable to even, or where to send it.
I'd prefer to pay online if possible but just don't see any way to indicate the years I want to pay for.

I think the cheque should be payable to "HM Revenue & Customs Only".

You add up the amount you need to pay for the years you want to pay. You then pay by Bank Transfer. A few days after paying you contact HMRC via their Digital Assistant and co firm that they have received the payment. You then tell them which years you want your payment allocated to.
