Prove IT Letter

Options
I have a few DCA's e-mailing me regarding some CC debts they claim I owe them.  A few of these accounts are well over 10 years old and I want to send them the prove it letter in the hope they back off, however as I understand it so as not to admit liability the prove it letter does not claim responsibility for the debt and as such you cannot request a copy of the CCA. In this case what does the prove it letter achieve if you wont know if the have the CCA or not?

It flushes out what they know about the debt. Ideally they would send a copy of the agreement and the most recent statement and a ccj reference if there was one

In your case you can check that this is what you thought it was and when the last payment was made -follow it up with a statute barred letter if appropriate

No need for a formal cca request.

The basic idea of sending the prove-it letter is as fatbelly has said, to get information on the debt in question, but in a way that does not admit any liability.

A debt collector must provide evidence of liability when asked to do so, that usually means obtaining a copy of a credit agreement, and a statement of account, now they are not always able to do this, so if they are not able to comply, then basically it all ends there.

If they do muddle together something resembling a credit agreement and a statement of account, you can determine whether or not the debt is statute barred, and then respond in an appropriate way.

Its important with debt related matters that you do things in the correct way, at the correct time.
