in Cutting tax
Hi. Wondering if anyone has any advice.
at the end of last year I took a job working in Norway offshore. I work for the same company but I am employed on a Norwegian contract and still live in the UK so just travel back and forward for my trips offshore. My pay goes into my Norwegian account and I pay Norwegian tax. last year I paid UK tax for 8 months and then Norwegian tax for 4 months (in the UK tax year. Norway tax year is Dec-Dec). If I calculate my UK tax for the 8 months, I would have overpaid by around 2000 ish. Will I be entitled to a rebate for this?
Now to the fun part of filling in my tax return. its all pretty simple up to the part where I declare my foreign income. I Know that the UK has a double taxation agreement with Norway and I dont have to pay tax in both countries. I cant get my head around the page where it asks to enter information for tax relief. on that page it says that there is an automatic calculation done but it says it is unable to complete that for me and I should refer to another document to work it out. is all of my norway pay/tax classed as tax relief or is tax relief just so that you do not get taxed twice on things.
Thanks

In all honesty, and with respect, you really don’t have the knowledge to confidently be able to submit your return correctly. Your questions and statements bear this out e.g. if I calculate my U.K. tax for the eight months. You may be entitled to full foreign tax credit relief up to the amount of U.K. tax due on your Norwegian income.I would seek professional advice - this is no an area for the novice!1
