Hi,
Do you know how long it takes a 50 something year old to get through Security Clearance?
Ie, the official one for work in UK sensitive or military or government related work.
Loads of engineering jobs in UK are demanding it now.
How long does it take to get through?
I have had over 6 address's in the last 5 years, and over 6 jobs in the last 5 years...will that mean it takes a lot longer to get completed?
I was born in UK, and parents are from UK too, but apparently it can still take a long time?
I was actually a Regular Soldier in the British Army for 8 years, but that doesnt actually give me any help with Security Clearance.
There must be loads of people going through Security Clearance now and i suppose it just takes a long time?
I've filled in all the forms last week , but now am just waiting.

There are different levels of security clearance.
The time depends on which level is being sought.
Have you been requested to provide your DBS check yet?
Have you been requested to provide references yet?
The process is thorough and, therefore, can take several months.0 -
Thanks yes, i have done the DBS check and passed that.
Yes i have provided refs but i am not sure if that was for the companies own procedure, or for the official Security Clearance.
I am actually up for two different jobs, both of which require Security Clearance......though only one of them has actually given me the GOV.UK link and asked me to use it to fill in the details for security clearance....i presume the other company will have noticed that i am already in the security clearance process and so they are holding off?.....because presumably when "company 1" sponsors someone through security clearance, then any other company is then able to view the result of it?
Or is it that a potential employee has to go through security clearance for each and every company that they are applying to? It seems bizarre that the same individual has to start again and fill in all the security clearance web forms twice?...ie start all over again when they apply for a second job that needs security clearance. Ive logged back into the so called security portal but cant find any way i can check on the progress of my security check?........though in one place it says "waiting for sponsor action"...whatever that means?
Also, the attached states that the UK Security clearance portal will be down from july 25 to aug 11. My new job is supposed to start on august 11th, so i assume that there is no way of knowing if i will actually be able to start on that date at all.
It doesn,t actually seem to be possible to check the progress of one's security clearance process?
