OP, it would help if you would give a link to the guide appropriate to your scheme/section of the scheme.

...or if you're out of your depth with all this, please could you give the full name of the scheme (or schemes, if more than one name) as it appears on any paperwork you have?
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Yes very much out of depth to make matters worse for me aptia told me today that they are entering a transition period of new administrators called Gallagher's I believe taking over and that options and conditions for myself could change possibly.

A change of administrator won't change the rules of the scheme. As requested above, could you give the full name of the scheme and someone here will be able to look at the various member guides and should be able to explain the options under the particular scheme you belong to.

Gallagher have taken over from Buck as one of my old 1990’s schemes’ administrators. All going fine so far. Scheme rules won’t change.

    This one? https://gknpensions.co.uk/

You are fortunate to have such a valuable and clear website:

They even got a newsletter for your scheme! https://gknpensions.co.uk/docs/Scheme-No1/2024_GKN_Newsletter_Scheme_No1.pdf

In other words, nothing to do with BAE in this case as far as I can see.
