Yesterday I received a letter from HMRC saying I was due tax from the year 2018/2019 as they could not claim it that year as I was not contactable nor PAYE.
I worked in 2 places that year, separately, left one job one week and started another the week after and was on minimum wage in both jobs ?
Is this for real or a scam ?

Welcome to the forum
I can't answer your question (I'm not sure you've provdied enough info for anyone to) but I'm going to ask that it gets moved over to the 'Cutting Tax' board where you might get more help0 -
Probably a good place to start would be accessing the Government Gateway and checking you account

HMRC don't claim PAYE. Your employer's responsibility to deduct from your wages. Though if you've been paid gross. The HMRC can pursue you for the money owed.

HMRC letters often used to have codes in the bottom left corner, for example P800.
Does the letter explain how you will receive the tax refund?0 -
Hello, PAYE can often go wrong when you change jobs, but there are time limits on how far back HMRC can go for underpaid tax and also rules around who HMRC should pursue when there has been an employer error. Please check our guidance for more information: https://www.litrg.org.uk/tax-nic/how-tax-collected/pay-you-earn-paye/paye-underpayments. I hope that helps“Official Company Representative
