Best place to buy a laptop

Hi
I want to get myself a new laptop but not sure where the best place to get it from would be or what I should be looking at.
I'd like it to be able to view my emails, create word documents and to store documents and photos.
I can’t remember what I’ve bought in the past except that they’ve been HP and have done the job I’ve needed them to. They cost me around the £300 mark.
Can anyone help me on what I should be looking for?
