I had alot of debt, from various banks and credit cards around 2002, and I lost a job around 2006 and stopped paying the debts, 6 years quickly passed and I moved address
After around 2012 I never got any debt letters
But this last few weeks I got one from from a company called VERIFY, which is for just under 2000£ - its stemmed from TSB
So any advice? As I have received a 2nd letter from them telling me, as i didnt respond they will visit my house (but I like in a house thats a bedsit with 12 other tennants)
I have lived at current address since 2018, and this is first time I have had any old debts re-appear

Are Verify acting on behalf of TSB, or for a debt collector that now owns this old TSB debt?
Do you remember owing TSB any money?0 -
Assuming they never started a court claim, this is going to be statute barred.
If you can identify it as yours, send a statute barred letter.
If you can't, send a prove-it1 -
Yea, as per fatbelly`s post, resurrecting old debts is what some debt collectors specialise in.
Yes the debt will likely be statute barred now, but that doesn't always stop collection activity, if you do as suggested, it should be put to bed once and for all.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I have lived at current address since 2018, and this is first time I have had any old debts re-appearChances are that the falsely alleged debt was sold as dog turd used toilet paper debt from one Debt Consolidator to another. Intrum bought Capquest and seem to be approaching people where they know the debt is Statute Barred, they use ACI, Verify and TMLegal to intimidate people into believing they have to pay. I am making a nice collection of files against Intrum and the companies they use because they know or should have known that the debts are unenforceable under FCA CONC rules.Let them come, film and humiliate them if possible, Verify only check whether the person living there is the person they wish to intimidate. Personally I let them come over and over because I like to cost them money and because I am analysing their modus operandi for the purpose of helping others defeat these vermin.Personally i have a DO NOT ENGAGE policy, I already had £11k of debt suddenly get closed when I reported conduct to the FCA and DOS. Currently working on another £27k of used toilet paper debt being chased by the very vermin you mention, they got a bit upset when I called them vermin on an anonymous call.Sadly it is now common practice for firms to break the law and breach the FCA CONC rules which not only say they can't enforce it but say they have to tell you they can't enforce it. By building a case and showing it is widespread I plan to get firms like Intrum (which is already in administration) have their license removed and the company shut down forever. So far Verify have not come back and they have not passed to TMLegal (also part of the PERCH group with ACI and Verify). I am actually happy to let them know that I am the person they are seeking, but in a way that does not really engage with them. For example if they say "I am trying to get hold of John Doe" I might respond with "Yes how can I help you" and then do nothing else all of this is done via a video doorbell. With 12 others in an HMO you would probably struggle to install one of those. Just do not engage, you know the debt is old and unenforceable, engaging with them only makes you low hanging fruitIf the leeches do attempt to take you to Court for a debt they can't possible win, then this chap has the right idea0
